FIDO Supporter Update — November 2025

Advancing Toward an Off-Leash Dog Park for Vashon Island

Dear FIDO Supporters,

Thank you for your continued commitment to bringing a safe, fenced, off-leash dog park to Vashon Island. Your engagement keeps this mission moving, and we are pleased to share encouraging developments that signal meaningful progress.

Current Status

With the update to Title 7 now in place, the pathway to establishing new dog parks in King County is finally open. This change has energized our collaboration with county leaders and allowed us to focus fully on identifying and advancing a viable site for Vashon.

Progress Since Our Last Update

Several promising steps have taken shape over the past few months:

- The 188th property remains under active county review as a potential site. Evaluation work is underway, and the County has committed to providing updates as the assessment continues.

- FIDO and King County are also pursuing the feasibility of a parcel of land currently owned by the company that operates KIRO on Maury Island.

Early conversations are underway, and the County is gathering information to determine whether the parcel owners are willing to sell to King County.

These developments show growing collaboration and a renewed sense of forward movement.

How You Can Help

As we advance into the next phase of work, community involvement remains essential.

Property Search:
FIDO continues to seek a minimum 3-acre parcel that is not eligible for residential development. If you know of land that may be suitable, we can offer compensation or a tax write-off to the owner. Your connections can help identify the right opportunity.

Board Recruitment:
We are looking for additional board members who can contribute insight, experience, and steady support. If you believe in the value of this community resource, we would be grateful for your involvement.

Share the Mission:
Awareness remains one of our most powerful tools. Please share our updates with friends, neighbors, and dog lovers across the island.

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, FIDO will continue working closely with the County to evaluate potential sites, monitor feasibility work for the 188th property and the Maury parcel, and explore available funding pathways that could support development. After years of persistence, we are seeing the strongest signs yet that this project is within reach.

Thank you for standing with us and for believing in a future where Vashon’s dogs have a dedicated space to run, explore, and play safely.

Warm regards,
The FIDO Board
